Studying in EU: Let Explore Opportunities with Hoa Binh University at the ERASMUS+
At the invitation of the European Union Delegation in Vietnam, People’s Teacher, Assoc. Prof. Dr. To Ngoc Hung, the President of Hoa Binh University, participated in the Erasmus+ Conference 2024. The event, organized in collaboration with the European Union Delegation (EUDEL) in Vietnam and the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET Vietnam), took place over two days on October 22-23 in Hanoi.
The ERASMUS+ Conference 2024 attracted the participation of nearly 50 higher education institutions from European Union (EU) member countries and over 100 higher education institutions in Vietnam. The event was attended by Mr. Margaritis Schinas, Vice President of the European Commission, Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc, EU Ambassador to Vietnam, the Romanian Ambassador, representatives from EU member countries in Vietnam, and over 500 online viewers, demonstrating strong interest in Erasmus+ in Vietnam – the EU’s flagship program for education, training, youth, and sports.
On the working day 1, the discussion sessions focused on the following components: Capacity Building in Higher Education (CBHE) Program, International Credit Mobility (ICM) Exchange, and Jean Monnet Activities (JMA). On the second working day, the conference centered around the current status of implementing Project 89 – Vietnam’s high-quality human resources development program.
Vice President of the European Commission, Margaritis Schinas, shared: “Erasmus+ has long been a symbol of excellence in education and cultural exchange in Europe. However, the international reach of the program has extended far beyond the EU, fostering global partnerships and enhancing mutual understanding. Expanding the scope of Erasmus+ not only opens up more educational opportunities but also strengthens cooperative relationships with countries worldwide, including Vietnam.”
Speaking at the conference, Vice Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Van Phuc stated, “It can be said that the partnership between Europe and Vietnam has developed significantly to date, with a focus on higher education cooperation. Particularly, since 2015, when the Erasmus+ program officially began its first phase in Vietnam, the expansion of connections and scientific research collaboration between European and Vietnamese universities has strengthened and achieved numerous accomplishments.”
Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung, Deputy Head of the Department of Higher Education at the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam, took part in a session introducing Project 89 and outlining its collaboration objectives with educational institutions in Europe and Vietnam. Dr. Nguyen Anh Dung provided an overview of the initial outcomes of the project. Dr. Dung mentioned that the Ministry of Education and Training’s leadership has empowered the Department of International Cooperation to sign Memorandums of Understanding with international partners to implement Project 89, enhancing the involvement of candidates in academic exchange programs and research within the European Union. Alongside practical experience sharing sessions showcasing the accomplishments and opportunities facilitated by Erasmus+ for Vietnamese and European universities, the discussions centered on the advancement of new human resources.
Established in 2008 according to Decision No. 244/QD-TTg by the Prime Minister, Hoa Binh University is a young and dynamic multidisciplinary higher education institution with an applied orientation. With nearly 17 years of construction and development, Hoa Binh University has made significant contributions to training and providing high-quality human resources for businesses, organizations in need, and society as a whole. Embracing the educational philosophy of “Quality – Integration – Creativity,” and aspiring to become a model non-public university closely collaborating with businesses, the university’s leadership participated in the ERASMUS+ Conference 2024 to explore opportunities for cooperation with European higher education institutions within the framework of the Erasmus+ project, aiming to tailor education to meet the needs of businesses and society.
People’s Teacher, Assoc.Prof.,Dr. To Ngoc Hung, together with representatives from Vietnamese and European universities, participated in a discussion concurring with the opinions exchanged by Mr. Peter van Tuijl, Director of Nufic Southeast Asia, regarding certain priority areas identified for training and research cooperation for the period 2021-2027. These areas include green transformation, digital transformation, climate change, enhancing the quality of human resources, and promoting employment rates. These priority groups align with the development strategy of Hoa Binh University towards the vision for 2045, meeting the urgent needs of the labor market, the need to reduce emissions for a green, clean environment, and addressing climate change.
Within the framework of the event, the President of Hoa Binh University engaged in discussions with representatives from various Vietnamese and European universities regarding the plan to participate in implementing the Erasmus+ project starting from 2025.
Upon recommendation by the Embassy of the Netherlands in Vietnam, the University of Twente in the Netherlands proposed collaboration with Hoa Binh University to participate in the Erasmus+ project. Additionally, Ms. Marlies Nijhuis, Scholarship Development Officer and Mrs. Laura Windig, Project Manager GEM Erasmus+, Joint Masters Degree Programme of the Unuversity of Twente have shared information of scholarships and their insights on the GEM Erasmus+ Project with HBU international relation manager.
The Erasmus+ 2024 event in Vietnam creates broad opportunities for collaborative training and research projects, offering numerous scholarships for high-quality human resource development. This contributes to promoting internationalization and modernization of higher education in Vietnam and fostering multilateral cooperation in the field of education between Vietnam and the European Union in the new era./.
