Students of Hoa Binh University Honored to Receive Scholarships from the Hessen State Ministry of Science and Arts and WUS Germany for the Academic Year 2024-2025

On November 28, at the Temple of Literature in Hanoi, the Hessen State Ministry of Science and Arts (Germany) and the World University Service (WUS) held a scholarship award ceremony for outstanding students from universities and colleges in the Hanoi region and neighboring provinces for the academic year 2024-2025. Hoa Binh University (Hanoi) proudly got 03 students to be awarded with the scholarships, continuing its tradition of being awarded scholarships by Germany for 8 consecutive years. 

In the Ceremony, from Germany, there came Dr. Boris Rhein, Prime Minister of Hessen (Germany); Mr. Manfred Pentz, Minister for Federal and European Affairs and International Cooperation of the State of Hessen; Dr. Kambiz Ghawami, President of the World University Service – WUS; Ms. Carolin Seidel, Head of the Cultural, Press, and Science Department of the German Embassy, representing the Hessen delegation; Dr. Bui Cong Tho, Head of the Hessen Buro in Vietnam. Regarding Vietnamese delegates, there came Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), leaders of MOET subordinate units, the Vietnam Study Encouragement Association, the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations, the Vietnam-German Friendship Association, along with officials, lecturers, and outstanding students from various universities.

At the Hessen – WUS Scholarship Award Ceremony for the 2024-2025 academic year, the delegation from Hoa Binh University is headed by Mr. Duong Van Ba, Director of Graduates and Postgraduate Training Department; Mr. Nguyen Toan Dinh, Secretary of the Youth Union of Hoa Binh University, along with the leaders of the Student Affairs Department and the Institute of International Education, and lecturers from different faculties within the University, and 3 outstanding students.

During his speech at the ceremony, Dr. Boris Rhein emphasized: “The scholarship program by the Hessen State Ministry of Science and Arts and WUS demonstrates a positive contribution to the international education efforts of the German government. It can facilitate deep and effective cooperation between Germany and Vietnam, especially in the cultural domain.

Furthermore, he extends his congratulations to all students who have been awarded scholarships, believing that scholarships serve as motivation and encouragement for students on their academic journey and future career development.

During the event, Vice Minister Nguyen Van Phuc affirmed, “Vietnam and the state of Hessen have a special relationship in various fields, particularly in education and training. Hessen has supported numerous educational activities in Vietnam. Vice Minister Nguyen Van Phuc also encouraged scholarship recipients to continue striving, make the most of learning opportunities, enhance their knowledge and skills. To become global citizens, contribute to the prosperity of the nation, enhance the intellectual reputation of Vietnam on the international stage, and foster good friendships between Vietnam and Germany, as well as various nations worldwide.”

President of WUS, Dr. Kambiz Ghawami, shared with scholarship recipients, “You are shining examples of determination, resilience in overcoming challenges, and a thirst for knowledge. You are not only a source of pride for your families and universities but also inspirations for the younger generation. It is hoped that you will be ambassadors in the future, fostering increasingly robust and sustainable relationships between Germany and Vietnam.”

According to Dr. Bui Cong Tho, for the past 35 years, the scholarship program in Vietnam, sponsored by the Hessen State Ministry of Science and Arts and the World University Service Germany, has annually provided 150 to 250 scholarships to outstanding students from impoverished backgrounds who have excelled in their studies at universities, colleges, and vocational schools nationwide. Outstanding students who receive scholarships must meet specific criteria, including being exemplary students, demonstrating diligence, achieving an average GPA of 7.5 or higher. Preference is given to students facing difficulties, hailing from remote areas, ethnic minority communities, beneficiaries of social welfare policies, with a special emphasis on female students. To date, nearly 8,000 students have been awarded scholarships through this program. The total scholarship amount awarded over the past 34 years has exceeded 56 billion VND. In the 2024 academic year, the Hessen scholarship fund was granted to 250 outstanding students from universities nationwide. During the Ceremony, 93 outstanding students received scholarships and commendations directly from Dr. Boris Rhein and Prof.Dr. Nguyen Van Phuc.
